BEFORE TESTING:

Wear protective gloves and eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area. Testing solutions contain corrosive acids and should be handled carefully. For best results, make sure the gold sample and scratch stone are clean and dry before beginning.

HOW TO TEST SILVER:

Create a Test Streak: Rub the object firmly across the scratch stone to leave a clear metal streak.

Create a Reference Streak: Next to the sample streak, make a parallel streak using a silver testing needle marked .999.
Apply the Testing Solution: Place a small drop of silver testing solution on both the sample streak and the .999 reference streak.

Observe the Reaction: Watch the color change on the sample streak and compare the reaction to the reference line.

SILVER TEST RESULTS:

.999 Fine Silver: Bright red
.925 Sterling Silver: Dark red
.800 Silver: Brown
.500 Silver: Green
